We would like to welcome you to the Sinawav Trail Lodge.  The name Sinawav comes from the Southern Ute Creation story that you can read below. The Lodge was built in 1947 after World War II during a time when our great country was just getting started again. Most travelers were either business or salesmen traveling alone. With that in mind, roadside motels were built with smaller rooms because that was what was needed. The single rooms had a twin bed and the double rooms had two full beds. Traveling across the country as a truck driver for 33 years, I found that room size did not determine whether I rested soundly or not. A good night’s sleep came from a comfortable bed in a clean room with a refrigerator and microwave to save me the costs from having to eat out all the time.

We wanted to keep our guests’ comfort first and foremost in our minds when we started remodeling here at the Sinawav Trail Lodge. The many new improvements included adding a refrigerator and microwave to every room, with either a king or two queen size beds replacing the twin- and full-size beds that we previously used. We updated the rooms to give our guests a more home-like atmosphere with rustic, farmhouse décor and a mixture of new and antique furnishings. You will find that the new rooms are cozy and impeccably clean. We always adhere to all Covid-19 standards.  Guests can also enjoy our courtyard complete with a nice playground, gas grills and a firepit. We serve a grab and go breakfast with fresh coffee every morning from 8 am to 10 am. We are a pet friendly establishment. Our guests and friends who return year after year, tell us that they love that we are not the everyday cookie cutter chain motel.

Salida is a charming, beautiful town, with activities for the young and the young at heart. In the Wintertime you can enjoy skiing and snowboarding up on the beautiful Monarch Mountain. There are also snowmobile and dog sledding tours given by local Outfitters. In the Spring and Summer, make sure to take time to see the wildflowers that are blooming along the roadside and blanketing the mountains on your way into town. Upon arrival you can spend the day mountain biking the many trails here or rafting on the Arkansas River. Most importantly we hope that you have a wonderful time during your stay here and we look forward to meeting you.

Thank you,

Robert – Owner
